The 20th edition of the MICA Classic has raised nearly $14,000 for the Grand Village, a camp for people with disabilities. The spokesperson for the organization and honorary chairman of the event—former freestyle skier Yves Laroche—was on hand last June 10 at the Lorette golf club to receive the donation.
The Grand Village
Founded in 1965 by the Club Rotary de Québec, the Grand Village is located along the St. Lawrence River in Saint-Nicolas near Quebec City and receives over 700 people with disabilities every year. This summer camp allows them to explore different activities, including performing arts, water games and many adapted sports. The Grand Village also provides a weekend getaway throughout the year.
“Our mission is to provide enriching outdoor experiences for children, adolescents and adults with physical or mental disabilities,” explains Marcel Noël, Director of the Grand Village.
Certified by the Association des camps de vacances du Québec, the agency employs about 40 people who work to ensure the safety, welfare and comfort of people with disabilities and provide a variety of activities. “We’re here to give them a little patch of blue sky and the green woods,” said Mr. Noël.
MICA cabinets de services financiers
MICA president Gino-Sébastian Savard puts the event’s success down to his business network, which once again made generous contributions to promoting and supporting this Quebec organization. “Every year, we support a cause that affects one of our advisers,” said Mr. Savard. “By raising money for the Grand Village through our event, I feel that we contribute to the happiness of many people, and that’s a good thing.”
